Community Advocate Andrew J. Mayts Re-Elected Chair of the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County

TAMPA, FL – Shumaker Partner Andrew J. Mayts, Jr. has been re-elected Chair of the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County, continuing his commitment to children and families in the community. Andy served as Vice Chair in 2020 and as Chair in 2021.

Created by the voters in 1988, the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County is focused on ensuring children are ready to learn, developmentally on track, and in safe and stable families. The Children’s Board is governed by 10 board members of the local community. Five are “ex-officio,” meaning they serve by virtue of the office they hold, including the Superintendent of Schools, a School Board member, the District Administrator from the Department of Children and Family Services, a County Commissioner, and a Dependency Court Judge. The other five members of the Board, including Andy, are Hillsborough County citizens appointed by the Governor of Florida.

“Andy’s deep ties to the community and the military base allow him to connect the dots and identify opportunities for partnership and investment,” said Kelley Parris, Executive Director of the Children's Board of Hillsborough County. “The Children’s Board has been lucky to have such a dedicated individual volunteer his service to benefit the children and families of Hillsborough County.”

Andy’s commitment to community also includes serving as Chair of the Tampa Bay Chamber, and serving in the Air Mobility Commander’s Civic Leader Program, just to name a few.

Andy focuses his practice on banking, business and construction related litigation, as well as cybersecurity prevention and response. He handles complex civil litigation matters for businesses, including national banks in state and federal court in numerous trials.
