A Veteran Himself, Alan to Help Military Members Transition to Workforce
TAMPA, FL — Shumaker Advisors’ Alan Suskey is taking on a new role to help ensure that Florida is the most Veteran-friendly state in the nation.
Florida House of Representatives Speaker Chris Sprowls is appointing Alan to the Florida Is For Veterans, Inc Board of Directors. The nonprofit helps military Veterans transition to civilian life by connecting them with employment and resources to take advantage of the benefits of living and working in the Sunshine State.
“As a Veteran himself, Alan knows firsthand the unique challenges of leaving the military and transitioning to civilian life,” Florida House of Representatives Speaker Chris Sprowls said. “Alan is known for his energy and heart to achieve the mission — having him on board is a key step and asset in making Florida the best place for Veterans to live.”
Alan served in the United States Army for eight years and was part of the initial invasion force for Operation Iraqi Freedom. He held multiple leadership posts during a pair of year-long tours in Baghdad. During his time on active duty, he received several awards, including eight Army Commendation Medals, the Valorous Unit Award, and was named the United States Army Europe “Soldier of the Year” in 2002.
“It has been my honor to serve our country and a true privilege to have this new opportunity to give back to our military members,” Alan said. “During my time in the Army, I worked alongside some of the most dedicated, committed, and intelligent people. They were able to operate under extreme conditions and stress. I know that our Veterans have so much to contribute to our community, and I look forward to helping them find success in their next roles.”
After leaving the military, Alan launched a career in advocacy, representing world-renowned research institutes, technology companies, small businesses, and clients in both Tallahassee and Washington, D.C. He served on Capitol Hill as the military aide to Congressman C.W. Bill Young, former Chairman of both the Appropriations Committee and Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense. Alan advanced port security projects in Tampa Bay as the External Affairs Director of SRI International’s St. Petersburg, Florida institute. He teamed up with former Congressman David Jolly to found Three Bridges Advisors, a boutique federal, state, and local advocacy firm. In 2021, Alan became Executive Vice President and Principal State Practice at Shumaker Advisors.
“As an eighth-generation Floridian, I simply love our state. And as a Veteran myself, I am honored to be part of the goal to make Florida the nation’s most Veteran-friendly state,” Alan said.
