As a Vice President of Shumaker Advisors Florida, Corey focuses on state legislative advocacy, appropriations, and agency representation, using an analytical, yet thoughtful approach to support clients across multiple industries before the Florida Legislature, the Executive Office of the Governor, and state agencies.
Corey has particular experience and expertise in helping clients with:
- Appropriations: Member and agency funding requests from project intake through the conference report and the Governor's action
- Local government: Municipalities, counties, and constitutional officers on state funding, infrastructure, disaster preparedness, and preemption matters.
- Health care and life sciences: Genomic medicine and rare disease, hospital and academic medical center priorities, and health care facility regulation.
- Technology and public data: Public sector procurement, forensic and investigative technology, and the public records and privacy questions that arise from state data programs.
He brings deep experience across multiple facets of government relations, including legislative staffing, political campaigns, and international relations. Prior to joining Shumaker Advisors, Corey served as a Legislative Aide in the Office of Representative Adam Anderson of the Florida House of Representatives through four consecutive legislative sessions, including the 2025 and 2026 sessions under his chairmanship of the House Health Care Facilities & Systems Subcommittee. Corey's tenure in Representative Anderson's office taught him that governmental outcomes are often settled before any vote takes place; they come down to preparation, communication, and engagement, which is what makes government relations work so critical and why he was inspired to work in this field. He also previously served as the Political Director for the Kevin Hayslett for Congress, FL-13 Campaign.
Corey earned a M.A. in Political Science from the University of British Columbia, where his research examined smart-city technology programs in Barcelona and Toronto, focusing on data privacy, public procurement, and government use of surveillance technology, and he also holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of South Florida. Outside of work, he enjoys riding motorcycles, traveling, and reading about history.
