Sidney focuses her practice on employee benefits and Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) matters, advising clients on the design, administration, and compliance of employee benefit plans, including multiemployer health, pension, and apprenticeship plans. She works with plan sponsors, trustees, and fiduciaries on regulatory compliance, governance matters, fiduciary obligations, and the drafting and amendment of plan documents.
Prior to joining Shumaker, Sidney gained experience through law school clerkships in civil litigation and business law, as well as a judicial externship in the Family Division of the Hennepin County District Court. Before attending law school, Sidney worked as a patent paralegal and patent assistant, supporting domestic and international patent prosecution matters.
She earned her J.D. from the University of St. Thomas School of Law and a B.A. in Political Science and Psychology from Middlebury College, where she also played women's hockey. Sidney has continued her involvement in hockey through coaching and playing in adult leagues. Her experiences as both a player and coach have reinforced the importance of teamwork, communication, preparation, and relationship building, qualities she brings to her legal practice.
Outside of work, she can often be found on the ice playing hockey, reading a good book, or planning her next trip. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends and cheering on Minnesota’s sports teams, including the Wild, Twins, Vikings, and Frost.
