Jay B. Verona

Partner

Having a reputation as an aggressive and passionate litigator and advocate, Jay is sought out by institutional and small business clients, and both creditors and debtors for representation in a wide array of business and real estate disputes, including:

  • Collections
  • Foreclosure prosecution and defense
  • Commercial landlord-tenant disputes
  • Contract disputes
  • All types of bankruptcy litigation

Most recently, Jay’s practice has become focused on representing financial institutions and other judgment creditors, most often on a contingency fee basis, in enforcing payment of uncollected money judgments – even those that have gone uncollected for many years.

A client-centric attorney, Jay tries to make the legal process simple for his clients to navigate, and his 38-plus years of experience has taught him that in nearly every case or dispute, there is a business solution to be had.  While Jay enjoys the litigation process, Jay frequently serves as a mediator in connection with bankruptcy, commercial, and real estate disputes to help litigants arrive at that business solution.

Originally from the Detroit area, Jay has practiced law in the Tampa Bay area since 1983, and joined Shumaker in 2012. Jay and his wife Claudia live in Redington Shores and in his spare time, he enjoys power-walking and weight-training.
