Free Employment Law Seminar Offers Continuing Education Credits to Attorneys, HR Professionals

SARASOTA, Fla. — The Sarasota office of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP is offering another complimentary seminar on employment law, this time covering termination procedures, minimum wage rules and how to craft an effective employee handbook. The morning session takes place 8 - 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at The Francis at 1289 N. Palm Ave. in Sarasota, and provides continuing education credits for both the Florida Bar and the HR Certification Institute.

Shumaker attorneys Jason A. Collier, Jennifer B. Compton and Daniel R. Strader will lead the seminar, offering tips on how to best avoid liability during terminations, ways to make sure you’re following minimum wage and overtime rules, and guidelines for drafting an effective employee handbook. Pending approval, the seminar counts for two hours of HR Certification Institute Continuing Education credits and two and a half hours of Florida Bar Continuing Legal Education credits.

Collier is board certified by the Florida Bar in labor and employment law and represents employers in wage and hour litigation, discrimination actions, and restrictive covenant and trade secret claims, among other types of litigation.

Compton is also board certified in labor and employment law, and represents employers and provides assistance in preventative counseling and the defense of litigation brought by current and former employees. Strader practices in the areas of employment law and civil litigation, as well.
