CHARLOTTE, NC – Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick is pleased to announce that Patrick B. Horne has joined the firm’s Charlotte, North Carolina office as a partner in the Intellectual Property practice.
Patrick is a registered patent attorney with over 15 years of experience who has a strong track record helping clients protect and monetize their IP, while mitigating infringement risks. Patrick is a well-seasoned patent practitioner. In fact, he is a leader in the field of financial technology patent prosecution, having procured for his clients well over 100 issued U.S. patents in the fintech space, which has seen historically low patent allowance rates in recent years. His patent practice also involves such diverse, high-tech fields as blockchain, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and quantum computing, and he has prosecuted to issuance numerous patents that are helping his clients achieve their strategic and competitive goals in fields such as end range-of-motion medical devices, multi-media delivery systems, and custom furniture manufacturing systems. He is licensed to practice in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
Patrick’s practice involves performing legal investigations related to IP infringement and validity, as well as counseling clients with regard to trademark selection, protection, policing and opposition. He has extensive experience in various transactional matters, including a wide variety of information technology agreements, license agreements, purchase agreements, and IP support and due diligence for M&A and finance transactions. Patrick also counsels clients on patent, trademark, and copyright enforcement and related litigation.
Patrick received his J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law and his B.S., magna cum laude, in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University.
