A trusted client advocate, Jill represents clients in complex disputes—from commercial business and trademark to labor and employment—in state and federal courts. She also guides clients through mediation proceedings, helping them achieve favorable settlements outside of the courtroom.

Prior to joining Shumaker, Jill worked at an AmLaw 50 firm and gained valuable experience and insight in complex litigation, including class action lawsuits, government enforcement actions, business disputes, mass tort litigation, insurance coverage, and other areas. She has a long history of community involvement with organizations such as The Junior League of Tampa, Tampa Connection, and the Hillsborough County Bar Association's Bar Leadership Institute.

Outside the office, Jill enjoys running, traveling, rowing, and hiking.

Representative Matters
  • Represented developer of neighboring building in a high-stakes class action lawsuit related to the collapse of a condominium building in south Florida and assisted in negotiating a complex settlement agreement.
  • Represented an international aerospace company in four high-profile mass toxic-tort actions in which plaintiffs allege that emissions from the company's manufacturing facility contaminated nearby properties and potentially exposed persons near the facility.
  • Secured summary judgment for a public utility in litigation regarding the application and calculation of a municipal public service tax.
  • Defended a public utility in a putative class action brought by residents alleging that emissions from a power plant contaminated more than 15,000 properties with radionuclides, metals, and other constituents, thereby elevating cancer rates. A putative class action that once included more than 30,000 residents was ultimately dismissed with prejudice.
  • Represented a public entity in a high-stakes action against a peer-to-peer company who had developed an industry-disrupting marketplace. Successfully negotiated a settlement that allowed the safe operations of the peer-to-peer company without compromising the operations of the client.
  • Obtained declination from the Department of Justice for client who had received a target letter in connection with alleged false statements to a federal agent and violations of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
  • Represented an international real estate firm in a class action lawsuit regarding the alleged embezzlement of tenant funds from a tenant-in-common structure and assisted in securing a favorable settlement.
