Julio C. Esquivel

In private practice now for more than 30 years, Julio has vast experience representing buyers and sellers in merger and acquisition (M&A) transactions in a wide range of industries. His experience ranges from handling middle-market transactions to international transactions in excess of $2.2 billion.

As a former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) attorney, Julio represents both public and private companies and investors in private securities transactions and other investment advisor and investment company issues. His M&A experience includes representing:

  • The issuer in an underwritten, public offering of approximately $240 million
  • A U.S. public company in its acquisition of a significant European manufacturer of hydraulic components from its private equity owner
  • A large private company acquiring office equipment dealers throughout the Southeast in more than 20 acquisitions
  • A family-owned pharmaceutical business in its sale of that business, for approximately $100 million, to a private equity group

Born in Mexico City and fluent in Spanish, Julio became the Shumaker Tampa office's first Hispanic managing partner. In 2018, Julio completed a six-year term on Shumaker's Management Committee, and he continues to serve on other firm governance committees.

Julio and his wife, Betsy, are passionate about their community. He serves on the boards of the Tampa Museum of Art, the Tampa Theatre, the Gasparilla Musical Festival Foundation, and the Public Art Alliance.
