Amy is focused on achieving solutions in employee benefit matters. As a Partner in Shumaker's Benefits Service Line, clients trust her demonstrated steady, diligent, and pragmatic approach to their concerns. And they know she will position them for success. Amy centers her practice on advising plan trustees and administrators regarding a wide variety of benefit matters, including plan design and amendments, eligibility, enforcement and interpretation of plan provisions, administrative appeals of benefit denials, withdrawal liability, fiduciary responsibility, and prohibited transactions.

Amy identifies potential subrogation claims and ensures that health plan assets are recovered in accordance with plan documents, as well as applicable laws and regulations. Working closely with administrators and claims staff, she drafts plan documents and amendments, agreements, training materials, and policies, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

An experienced courtroom advocate, Amy also represents plan trustees in litigation of varying size in complexity in both State and Federal Courts at the district and appellate levels, frequently defending them against claims brought by plan participants. She routinely provides risk assessments and strategies necessary for resolving pending disputes, claims, and litigation.

In her free time, Amy enjoys exploring the Minneapolis lakes with her Sheepadoodle and watching true crime documentaries.
