Grant is a Board Certified Health Care Lawyer with almost 20 years of health law experience. Before joining Shumaker, Grant served as in-house counsel to a multicounty health care system, which was comprised of a health plan, four hospitals, pharmacies, two home health agencies, a physician group of 300 doctors, DME, labs, and hospice. He most recently served as their Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer. Grant is familiar with the challenges that senior leaders and boards must overcome and manage. He also knows how to reduce risk and build compliant cultures.

In addition, Grant was a lawyer for the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) for seven years. He served as an attorney for the Florida Medicaid program for four years. He was then promoted to Chief Facilities Counsel. In this role, Grant was in charge of the team of 20 attorneys who represented and provided counsel to AHCA on all licensure matters. AHCA oversees the licensure of over 25 health care licenses, including but not limited to hospitals, home health, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and health care clinics.

Grant’s vast experience includes complex litigation and transactions, Stark and anti-kickback, compliance, audits, privacy, and HIPAA matters, as well as hospital, pharmacy, physician group, and health plan operations.

Grant is certified in Health Care Compliance and Privacy by the Health Care Compliance Association, and he is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit and County Court Mediator.

Grant and his wife Laura enjoy reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and their small dog Bunny.
