Jason is a nationally recognized government affairs leader who brings a unique and diverse legislative background to help clients navigate the federal and executive branches. His more than 20 years of knowledge of the U.S. legislative and executive level policymaking processes, paired with his work with appropriations committees, enables him to advocate for his clients' federal needs.
Prior to joining Shumaker Advisors, Jason served as the Executive Director of the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA), where he was responsible for overseeing and directing the political and legislative arm of the NRA's seven divisions: Federal Affairs, State & Local Affairs, ILA Fiscal Operations, Hunting and Conservation, ILA Legal, External Affairs, and Grassroots. Joining the NRA in 2005, Jason also served as Director of Federal Affairs at the institute, Deputy Director of the Federal Affairs Department at NRA-ILA, and as a Federal Affairs lobbyist.
Jason served as a legislative assistant for Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, where he was responsible for issues involving:
- Taxes
- Homeland Security appropriations
- Transportation and transportation appropriations
- Small business and commerce
- Social Security, pensions, and welfare
- Science and technology
- Government affairs and justice
- State appropriations
Jason also served as Staff Director of the Life Insurance Caucus of which Senator Chambliss was a Co-Chair. Before working on Senator Chambliss' personal staff, Jason was a Senior Research Analyst at the National Republican Senatorial Committee, where he compiled all applicable research for Senator Chambliss' successful 2002 Senate race. He also compiled similar research for Sen. Gordon Smith of Oregon in a successful 2002 reelection. In 1999, Jason served as a Junior analyst for the Republican National Committee, where he spent the better part of two years conducting field research for President George W. Bush's 2000 presidential campaign.
When Jason isn't busy advocating for his clients, he can be found working out, coaching his kids' basketball teams and volunteering at their swim meets, or shooting sporting clays. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of his parish council.
