FARGO, ND — Shumaker Advisors' federal team helped client Brandt Holdings secure the cooling equipment needed to make ice at its hockey arena, averting a disruption that threatened the facility's upcoming season and the jobs of more than 250 people who support events there.
Brandt Holdings had ordered the equipment months earlier, but a federal hold on cooling systems tied to national security and defense priorities repeatedly pushed the company's order to the bottom of the fulfillment list. Without the equipment, the arena faced the prospect of relocating its upcoming hockey season to another venue—an outcome that would have affected the facility's operations, the surrounding community, and the hundreds of employees who help stage its events.
Shumaker Advisors worked with North Dakota's federal delegation to elevate the issue and communicate the urgency of Brandt Holdings' situation. Their engagement helped break the logjam, prompting the supplier to move Brandt Holdings to the top of its priority list. The equipment shipped this week.
"This was about much more than a delayed equipment order. An entire hockey season, a major community venue, and more than 250 jobs were at risk," said Mike Fedorchak, Shumaker Advisors Vice President of Federal Affairs. "By bringing the right people together and clearly demonstrating the urgency, we were able to help Brandt Holdings cut through the federal impasse and keep the season on track."
The successful outcome underscores the value of coordinated federal advocacy when government actions create time-sensitive challenges for businesses and communities. Through its relationships and understanding of federal processes, Shumaker Advisors helps clients navigate complex policy and regulatory issues and move critical priorities forward.
